I provide Executive-level coaching for a handful of outstanding professionals. Each week we come together for an hour to 90 minutes. Even when the week is busy with pressures from every side.

Especially then, in fact.

This first week of the New Year I am reminded what a privilege it is to play a role in the lives of these exceptional people.

As different as they all are, they all share a common thread. They want to be their best self possible in their career in order to effectively and impactfully create opportunities for others and their companies.

They called me to help them accomplish everything they hoped was possible.

And we do the work. Together.

I have guiding principles but every individual has a different set of challenges and opportunities. We unlock them all and we solve them with a plan.

It is a gift to know these people so closely.
It's a relationship based on trust, respect and kindness, not just expertise.

The personal and the professional 'you' are tightly woven together.
One can never run at full speed if the other half is limping along.

You will never hear me offer specifics or hint at giving away any of these high value clients.

But I can promise you they are real and I can promise you it moves me. Sometimes almost to tears as we cut through the deepest hurts and most incredible opportunities on the other side.

Together we build a solid foundation of confidence and capability. We dig and stretch and pull until we're in a new place with greater vistas of leadership in full view.

There are excellent leaders amongst us.
I see them. I know them.

As the New Year begins, I cannot wait to see what these people make happen in their worlds in 2022.

On A Tip to Help You Intentionally Live Out Your Business Purpose:
Here's one thing I do before the day begins:

I review my calendar and notes from the prior day to ensure everything is covered and moving forward.

And then I send a thought of gratitude for them and all we are doing together.

Next, I go over today's calendar and look at the names of all of the people I will be talking with throughout the next several hours.

I take a few moments to think about each person and how I can listen best to their concerns, consider their challenges, have my mind prepared to discuss solutions and opportunities...and again, gratitude.

This helps remove the chaos of a busy day and raises the importance of each call.

While others may have more ideas to share, and please do, this has made an enormous impact on my productivity, appreciation and client care.

On missing some of my favorite colleagues...and this dress!

A lot of people have come and gone and the pandemic has reduced our ability to see each other. I'm hoping this changes soon. I always loved seeing my dear friend and colleague, Matt Lerner at out meetings at our AutoNation HQ in Fort Lauderdale.

In addition there are a few wardrobe pieces that I'm missing..
This was a great dress and I have a few others hanging that I need to be able to get back into...not squeeze into.

As I continue to lace up for this New Year brimming with possibilities, people are at the top of my list, but my health is right up there with it. I will be in this dress again soon.

Every day is a journey of our choice.

In 2022 I'll be more intentional than ever for including more people in my world expanding my network and deepening my current relationships to new levels.

To do this best, I'm adding some tweaks to my daily plan to make sure I'm at peak personal health performance as well.

There's so much to do, so many new memories to make and so much to live for... I want it all. I'm blessed with a lot of people in my world that deserve me to be there for them.

My heart breaks that tomorrow I will be driving with my oldest daughter, Andrea as we say our goodbyes to one of her dearest friends, Leslie.

She left far too quickly in the dark of the night, giving those who loved her no notice. We may never know what illness took her so swiftly, but we do know this: She was love in every way possible.

The picture you see here was nothing special. This was the smile and the sweet spark of joy in her eyes that was always there. No filters, just radiant beauty.

Leslie was one of Andrea's first friends when she moved to Charlotte 12 years ago. They both worked (night and day) at the Westin. The bonds that were made there remain with so many. Tough work and a challenging schedule accelerates you from colleagues to family quickly. JJ Littrell, CPA was there too. So were Kara Hardiman, Yesenia Nolasco Ramírez and a host of others. This is even where Christie Hunt and Jon's world comically collided with all of these wonderful women. They are all dearer friends today than ever.

Leslie was at every event, happily, quietly, joyfully. She was accomplishing so much in her work, winning trip after trip. I loved watching her travels and recognition stacking up.

She deserved more time here on this crusty planet we shared. I am broken that she is gone and at such a young age. I am crushed that my daughter has lost such a dear friend who shared her heart. I am sad that Jordy won't know Aunty Leslie any longer.
She wanted a family so badly and like Andrea says, would have been the best mom a kid could hope for.

Leslie was a leader. A kind, loving, caring leader. A friend to everyone. She was goodness and light.

She will always be goodness and light, even if all we have now are the memories.

I can't imagine the pain her family is experiencing. I can only hope that some small measure of their grief will be assuaged by seeing and feeling all of the lives that she touched so deeply as we gather tomorrow in her hometown of Charleston.

Please hug someone closer tonight.
May we all know love the way you shared it.
We love you Leslie. You are terribly missed. You were a Queen.

On Starting Well, On Repeat: The Monday Morning Power Play Edition.

Monday morning can set the tone for a cavalcade of activity. How you begin can set in motion a whirlwind of events to carry you through and beyond the borders of any week.

But does it really matter if you start at 4 a.m. or 7 a.m.?
Or even on a Monday?

I have no idea.
Even after reading dozens of books on professional development, time management, et al, for me, the most important thing for me is to self-regulate, self-assess and press towards continuous improvement. And always be in 'START' mode.

This creates embedded momentum for me, even when I'm not consciously focusing on it.

My Monday?

It started last week.
It's even more productive and meaningful since I plotted it out prior to today.

We would all do well to pay less attention to the vanity metrics that often accompany early hours and choose to start early, all of the time.
